Sparton Cobalt Blue Mirrored Art Deco 7-Sided Radio - Model 409 For Sale

DESCRIPTION: Cobalt Blue Mirrored Sparton tube radio, model 409-GL designed by Walter Dorwin Teague for the Sparks Worthington Company, Jackson, Michigan in 1938; it is the last in the line of there mirrored radios. This spectacular radio, from a bygone era, is rare and highly collectible. The 409GL is similar in concept to the Bluebirrd 556 in that it consists of an inclined mirror, with the chassis artfully concealed in a rear cabinet. This small cobalt blue mirrored radio, known as the \"7-Sided\", features a great geometric Art Deco design. The cobalt blue mirror is beveled with contrasting ebony lacquered ribbed feet and reverse silk-screened Art Deco dial numerals. The geometric shape and other details are distinctively of the Art Deco period. This is an excellent example of a highly sought after Art Deco period mirrored radio that is unmatched by any other manufacturer in its time.

CONDITION: Radio is in great all original condition, there are two small “flea bites” to the rear edge of original mirror that are not noticeable from the front view. Mirror has not been re-silvered and therefore retains the original grey flock on backside of mirror. Mirrors have some wear consistent with age & use as shown in the photos. The wood cabinet has the original light grey flock finish in great original condition with some light signs of age. The black Bakelite knobs are orignal to radio. The three rosettes & screws that attach the mirror pieces to the cabinet are original, with some loosening of the mirror silver around the right roset. Radio retains the original back panel.

Radio measures approximately: 11.75\" wide by 7.5\" high by 4.75\" deep. The radio powers-up but just get static so it is sold \"as-is\", the chassis seems complete and the cord is in good condition and appears original. Set is being sold as a vintage electronic. PRICED TO SELL
