This M1859 pattern United States Marine NCO Sword was manufactured by the Lilley-Ames Co., Columbus Ohioand distributed by The N.S. Meyer Co., New YorkNY before 1938.
This pattern was made regulation again after WWI and was only made the Lilley Ames Co. from then until 1942 when the Department of the Navy abolish the carrying of swords. They were reinstated in 1954, but production was then picked up by the Solingen, Germany Manufactures.
Note the numbers on the scabbard; the 32 is the blade length and the 23 is for scabbard assembly purposes.
