After a couple of years of playing in a Pennsylvania symphony orchestra, Neal joined Cowboy Phil’s Golden West Girls band. She toured the Pacific with The Golden West Girls in 1945 as part of a USO tour. At some point, she formed Abbie Neal and Her Ranch Girls. In 1949, the group had two daily radio shows over WWVA-AM in Wheeling, W.Va., and appeared weekly on the WWVA Jamboree (a live country music program similar to WSM’s Grand Ole Opry). They also appeared regularly through the 1950s on several local TV stations in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. In the late 1950s, Neal also did a morning-drive shift over WAMO in Pittsburgh.

Through the rest of her career, she performed in USO shows around the world, did a long stint at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas and retired to Reno, Nev., in 1975. She died in 2004 at the age of 85.
