The Ronson Company (Art Metal Works) first manufactured this eye-catching lighter in 1934. It is a whimsical caricature of a Droopy Eared Hound Dog. It is figure 116 in Urban Cummings informative book: “Ronson the World’s Greatest Lighter”. If you have not yet picked up this great Ronson resource book, you owe it to yourself to do so! This handsome Venetian Bronze Copper Plated Houn’ Dog Striker is marked “A.M.W. Copyright 1935\". It is noted in Urban’s book that John Skiba was a master plaster model maker working for Ronson for some 25 years and credited with creating many of the attractive Ronson pieces. This handsome Venetian Bronze Copper Plated Houn’ Dog Striker is a large lighter, weighing well over a pound and reaching 5 inches tall to the top of its wand. It has no dents or dings, showing that it has never been mishandled or dropped. Its Venetian Bronze finish is in excellent condition and it has its original matching finial inverted cone striker. It is also complete with its original felt and Ronson Label on its bottom. A flint strip will be installed prior to shipping to assure that this great piece to be in perfect working order.
