This is one lot of the Primrose League badges / medals / jewels I am currently selling which belonged to the famous North Yorkshire Historian chap called Hugh Murray from York.
He collected all sorts of items, books, medals, badges, seals and it was not afew......but hundreds upon hundreds and I have been fortunate to buy quite alot of his collections at a live sale.. offering them here to you ALL now, non of which have been on before.
Primrose League.....some of these are fairly easy bought these days on and antique fairs but some .... you probably will not see them very often or ever again.
Interesting to see it was a Conservative related club founded in 1883 by admirers of Benjamin Disraeli, his favorite flower was the Primrose.... Queen Victoria sent a wreath of Primroses to his funeral ... it was about 2 years later, The Primrose League was founded by some prolific members of the Conservative party and House of Commons members.
Find another if you can !
This has to be one of the RAREST Primrose League breast badges / medals you will ever lay your eyes upon...it has a plain top bar... and a yellow ribbon... then a CROWN suspension hook at the bottom with a fabulous silver backed plate on the gilt front jewel part..notice... this back plate is VERY different to the other similar silver plates on the other jewels - badges.... also NOTE ... the back near the suspension loop has a Victorian Diamond Registration Mark.. its abit smudged to be fair.. look above this to the back of the CROWN hook..it too has a Diamond Registration Mark as well.. obscured by the ribbon ..but its a clear mark. ..its 11 December 1883.
You will also see a yellow enamel bar on the yellow ribbon..this says FOUNDER .. there were not many Founders of this Primrose League so it would be interesting to know how many of these particular Medals type there are.
The medal is 10.5cm long x just over 4cm wide top bar x 5cm wide actual medal width.
