Beautiful vintage handwoven cotton and dyed African indigo fabric, made by the Dogon in Mali. Textiles are dyed with the resist, stitch dying technique and each piece is unique. All the ones I will be listing arehard to find, older indigo pieces in very good conditon, with the old dyed patterns, and all were used and soft from wear and washing.
This piece isapproximately 44\" x 49” with 8 medium weight strips, and stitch dyed stripes going down each strip that have a very light blue cast to them. The dark blue of the strips has varied horizontal lines from the white weaving threads.
Very good condition: Ends are hemmed, but there is a tear and seam separation at one end; two holes toward the sides, side wear toward one corner of the piece; a small loose or missing horizonal weaving thread in the middle. But a very nice looking textile!
I was lucky to have“first choice” of several large containers of indigos, as they arrived directly from Africa, and have many that I will be selling. I picked ones that were in the best condition, and/or the most unique, but there are almost always a few flaws, which I will note in my listings and photographs.(0438) _gsrx_vers_779 (GS 7.0.4 (779))
