This clock was one of the many commemorative pieces that Franklin Mint, a reproduction company in Pennsylvania did over about 30 years. The company went out of business about 2001. Not many of these clocks come to the market very often.
What a great case on this clock. Beautiful black marble or slate case on this one. The case is black with a great scalloped design running thru the material. The two marble obelisks hold the clock movement and there are brass tiers on the base and two other places along each column. There are no chips to the slate/marble case, no cracks, or repairs to it.
The finish on the clock movement case is done in a gold colored lacquer. Held securely in place between the two obelisks. The gold colored metal rear door is on the clock and latches into place as expected. The clock was probably made in the 1970s to 1980s time frame.
The white metal face on this clock looks great. There is a gold colored trim ring around the clock face. The bezel is securely attached to the case at the hinge. The flat glass is intact in the bezel, no cracks or chips. The elegant hands match and look appropriate to the clock. Nice open look to the movement on the front so that some of the movement workings can be seen. Says, \"Thomas Jefferson\" on the movement just inside the face.
The clock has been running since we acquired it. This is a time and strike clock. The movement and bell unit are in place. The movement is German made by Hermle, a 131-070 movement with no jewels. The clock will come with a #4 winding key. Both springs in the movement feel sound when keyed. The clock strikes a bell once at the half hour and the number of hours on the hour.
The hanger for the pendulum and the pendulum are there. So, the clock is being sold in running and striking condition.
The clock stands 14-11/16\" tall, by 11-3/8\" across, by 3.75\" wide. The face is 3-7/8\" across.
As can be expected when dealing with a vintage clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks.
Overall a Beautiful Clock!There is some earth quake putty on it so I will remove when I ship it
