You are offerding on a vintage corrugated Keen Kutter plane model K2, restored to excellent working condition.These K-series planes were manufactured in the 1920s by Stanley/Bedrock for E. C. Simmons who marketed them as their Keen Kutter branded planes.So this plane is equivalent to a Bedrock 602 Type 4 plane with a \"K 2\" in the casting in front of the knob, and includes the superior \"frog-on-rails\" mating surface between the frog and bed, which keeps the frog and iron positioned correctly during frog adjustment.The Keen Kutter lateral adjustment lever design uses one piece of metal, twisted at the end to form the tab, unlike the bedrock style.The knob andtote are rosewood, and on this plane, the tote has a letter \"S\" stamped into the side.The iron has the expected Keen Kutter logo, and the cap iron as a \"93\" stamped into the top surface.
Condition (please refer to photos):All parts are original to this plane.To one side of the knob, 1/2 inch of the side casting at the toe had been chipped off (see restoration notes below) but there are no other breaks or cracks in that area or anywhere else on thebase. The sole and sides are in very nice condition with almost no pitting and only minor shallow scratches.The knob and tote had no breaks or cracks when obtained, although a small piece of the tip of the tote was missing (see restoration notes). This does not effect the feel of the tote when in use.The iron and cap iron has some shallow pitting at the top area.The iron has taken a nice sharp edge but might benefit from some fine-tuning.The lever cap looks great with only a few minor scratches on thesides.
Restoration notes:The sole and sides were lapped and polished.The chipped area on the front side was smoothed-over to remove any sharp edges and then polished.The japanning was touched up where needed.Both the knob and tote were refinished (stain + polyurethane). The top of the tote (where the tip was chipped-off) was smoothed-out during refinishing.All hardware was cleaned and polished.All exposed metal surfaces were waxed, including mating surfaces between frog and base.
