Vintage Mexican Folk Art SOTENO Family Metepec Tree of Life Candle holders / Candlesticks Set.
RARE to find such a stunning and vibrant set still together.
Large Tree: 11.5"W x 10"H x 3"D
This tree has one leaf that is broken off. It needs to be glued back on directly behind the purple flower on the right-hand side. Photo # 5 shows me holding it back into place. Also missing one center leaf.
Smaller Trees: 7.25W x 6"H x 2 3/8"
One tree is in fantastic vintage condition. The other tree has part of the center pink flower petal on the right-hand side broken off. Photo # 4 shows me holding this piece back into place. It also has a small chip on the base which is mostly hidden underneath but wanted to mention it.
I was going to glue these pieces myself but decided that I'd leave that upto the next collector so that they can glue themselves or have it professionally repaired.
Please review all photos as part of the description. All sales are final. Also, I'm expirenced with shipping fragile items.
The Soteno family of Metepec is one of the main families of ceramic artisans specializing in sculptures called Trees of Life which have made the town found in the State of Mexico one of Mexico's main ceramic centers.
The family’s prominence began with Modesta Fernández Mata, the mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of the Soteno potters today, who began experimenting making more decorative items along with utilitarian ones. The generations after her have learned the craft and improved on it starting as children working with parents and grandparents.
The two most notable members of the family are Tiburcio and Oscar, second and third generation respectively, who have won various awards and have their works in collections worldwide.
