Vintage & Rare Circa 1851 California Gold Scale with Case
Description
All Original and Very Rare 1850s Brass Pocket Balance Gold Scale. These gold scales were manufactured expressly for those traveling to the California gold region during the California Gold Rush and says so on the top of the case as follows, "Miners Improved Gold Scale Manufactured Expressly for California". The brass scale consists of its brass beam, with matching pair of brass pans suspended by their original brass chains. Also includes a wooden holder with a set of brass weights labeled as follows: 2 Ounces, 1 Ounce, 1/2 Ounce, 2 DWT, 3 DWT and 4 DWT. DWT is the abbreviation for a pennyweight, which is equal to 24 grains. All of this comes in its original tin case, painted green with gold letters and an eagle with shield. This gold scale is in good condition, with some minor denting and scratches. This rare scale is guaranteed to be manufactured approximately 160 years ago, for the miners heading to the California Gold Rush.
