Vintage U.S. Post Office Cast Iron Mail Box - Dated 1915: $1300.00
This mailbox was manufactured in 1915 by the Danville Stove & Mfg Co in Danville PA. I purchased the mailbox on in 2014. It was in good condition but needed painted and refurbished. NOTE: The second picture (the blue mailbox) is not the one I purchased but represents what my mailbox looked like when I got it. I had the box professionally sandblasted down to the bare cast iron. Then I primed it with Rustoleum gray. Then I painted it with Rustoleum red, blue, and white inside and out, several coats. I added the lock (the original was missing). I have bolted a 1x6 piece of lumber on the bottom and installed rubber feet to the lumber so the mailbox could set on a counter without scratching the surface. This could easily be removed. I was using this as a mailbox for my grandkids to send their letters to Santa! They are older now and it has lost its magic for them. The box weighs 61 pounds. It stands 20.5 inches high, 13 inches wide, and 9 inches deep. There are no broken parts. All cast iron is solid with no cracks. If anything, I may have done too good a job refurbishing it! Buyer to pay $75 for shipping. I will cover the balance of shipping costs. But I will select the least expensive method for shipping this. If you are near the 43035 zip code we can make arrangements for you to pick up the mailbox AFTER money has been exchanged.
