Two-Faced Tribal
...A rare and fabulous lamp from the 1950s made by the venerable Italian potter, Ugo Zaccagnini, for Marbro Lamp Co. It\'s a large ceramic form with a tribal mask sculpted into each side - one smiling, one sad. Both faces are highly expressive and dimensional with cutouts and carved-in features. The smiling face has an applied corkscrew eyebrows and beard - just wonderful! The ceramic is hand-painted with a rubbed graphite and white finish that highlights the design perfectly. Signed on the bottom with the Zaccagnini Z, \"Italy, L. 981, Marbro Lamp Co.\"
The shade shown is not included, only a small glass interior fixture that can be fitted with a replacement shade of your choice. The total height is 26 1/4,\" with the ceramic portion measuring 12 1/8\" high and 8 1/2\" across. The wiring is original and works great. A few condition issues can hardly detract from the enormous presence of this lamp. A chip on the top edge near the center and several at bottom edge have been nicely touched up to blend in very well. There are also some smaller fleabites, scuffs and scrapes. Also, one portion of the ceramic spiral eyebrow is missing. Primitive, tribal, African, cubist, theatrical, modern, tiki....this lamp fits into so many themes. It\'s fun, fantastic, and a highly collectible piece of mid-century modernism.
