Don't Miss This One....!!!
A classic and uniquely original USAF officer's formal "Mess Dress" visor hat from the period of the late 1950s which he continued to wear through the Vietnam War......
The 4925th Test Group (Atomic), famously known as the "Megaton Blasters", was stationed at Kirtland AFB near
Albuquerque, New Mexico and was responsible for the actual testing of nuclear
weapons delivery systems for USAF aircraft from the late 1940s through 1961 when
it was inactivated. Their stable of aircraft included the B-29, B-50D, B-45, the
B-36H and then on into the Jet Age, a couple of B-52s, B-47s as well asseveral
different jet fighter types, including a number of Navy types, that were flown by what the the Air Force called the
best pilots in the world. The 4925th dropped "live" weapons in testsat the
Nevada Test Siteas well asmany of the tests in the Pacific all throughout the
1950s which was the 4925th's "heyday" so-to-speak.
This Mess Dress visor hat/cap is from the estate
of a former member of the 4925th who also flew B-24s in WWII. This is not a recent
reproduction - it is absolutely original to the period. The winner of the
sale will receive this veteran's name, or you can email me and I will send
it. I won't post it online. This pilot reportedly made the first jet aircraft
landing at Kirtland. There will be more items from this estate
Condition Note: This late 1950s through early to mid 1960s USAF field grade officer's black Mess Dress visor hat or cap is in VERY Fine+++ to near Mint

The leather sweatband is in surprisingly good shape and all stitching is intact. It was found in its original Morry Luxenberg box with the white mess dress cover as you see in the photos. This hat is absolutely museum grade...!!! Photos 2 and 7 are without flash - the rest are with flash.
