Zuni THOMASINE SHACK Earrings \"Book Piece\" Butterfly Mosaic Inlay 1940s:
$399.00

Welcome!

I\'m offering for your consideration a pair of beautiful old, 1940s, Zuni screw back butterfly earrings made with mosaic inlay of natural stones of turquoise, spondylus shell, jet and mother of pearl. They have hand made and stamped raindrops representing the eyes and mouth in a stylized form that was used quite early. These same earrings are depicted in Bassman\'s book \"Zuni Jewelry\" on page 13 along with pieces by such as Charlie Bitsue and Leekya Deyuse but these are not attributed. However Sei\'s book \"Figural Designs in Zuni Jewelry\"devotes a page to these earrings and identifies the artist as Thomasine Shack. This artist is also represented in the Bell book \"Zuni The Art and the People Vol 1, so her work has been appreciated over the years. On these famous earrings, the screw backs are marked sterling but the earrings themselves have no indication of silver content and are not signed by the artist. That is usual for that period, the 1940s. They are in excellent vintage and collectible condition, and they are a lovely pair with no problems.

Dimensions are 3/4\" (1.9 cm) x 3/4\" (1.9 cm)  and of course the screw backs can be replaced with posts by a jeweler who uses laser, if you wanted to convert them to pierced earrings. Lovely and versatile! Very light weight, too, at 2.9 grams each; 5.8 grams the pair, so they will not become uncomfortable on the ears.

Yes, I sometimes can take reasonable offers.

I request payment by PayPal in two days, but planned in advance of purchase, alternate payment methods and time payments can be arranged.

I generally ship same day. Shipping in the US costs $7.99 Priority or $5.99 First Class or $25 Overnight. Tracking is included in that cost, and Signature Confirmation is included on items $750 or more. Your invoice will allow you to choose the shipping method.

International buyers pay actual shipping cost and are responsible for any customs fees their own countries may apply. Please discuss changing shipping method prior to purchase. My shipping defaults to Express International, which is tracked and insured, but I can consider Priority Mail International. It\'s less expensive and is tracked, but usually cannot be insured. To the UK and Canada, First Class International can be used; it can be tracked to those countries.  I am no longer shipping to Italy and China, but you can talk to me about this, especially if you are a prior customer.

Returns will be accepted for 30 days after your receipt for any reason and without question. Please let me know if you would like to return something. Returns must be in the same condition they were shipped. If I make a significant mistake in a listing I\'ll always give you a full refund. The 20% restocking fee does not apply when the mistake is mine. I care that you\'re happy and about my accuracy, and will always stand behind my work.

When I include pages from published books in my listings it is in accordance with Fair Use Law, which permits the use of source material for discussion, reference, education and criticism.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.

Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. Most pieces are museum worthy and gallery suitable, sold to you at great pricing. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you\'re starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear or gift. My goal is that all my buyers are delighted, that my special pieces find the right homes.
