Zuni attr Elizabeth Leekya Vacit Long Sun Face Screwback Earrings Mosaic Inlay:
$289.00

Welcome!

This pair of spectacular earrings come from an estate collection and were purchased in the 1940s-50s. The Sun Face looks the same as that by Elizabeth Leekya Vacit in the boon called \"Hopi Bird and Sun Face in Zuni Jewelry\", the page of which is the last picture above. The Sun Face she made in that book has ears and earrings which were left off the earrings so that the clean lines in the long earring body could be maintained. The face and feathers are the same in the earrings and the item in the book. And there is no other example I could find of this same design so I believe the earrings can fairly be assigned to Elizabeth LeekyaVacit, who was Leekya Deyuse\' daughter and Frank Vacit\'s husband. These earrings are rare if not unique in their beautiful design, using gold lip shell in a striking, reflective, manner, and also inlay of Sleeping Beauty turquoise and coral and jet and white mother of pearl. Each stone was hand cut and buffed and set and it was done beautifully. The design, incorporating the Sun Face, is graceful and lovely, as well as being unique to my experience. The design and inlay are exceptional in fine quality. The screwbacks could be replaced by ball posts or hanging shepherd\'s hooks for pierced ears so easily that you can do it yourself. No soldering is necessary. If you prefer shorter, you can use ball posts and if you prefer longer you can use a shepherd\'s hook.

They measure 2\" high and 11/16\" wide without their findings and the current findings add 1/2\" in length. They are light in weight on the ears at 8.6 grams the pair, 4.3 grams each. There is no marking on them for artist or metal content but they are sterling silver; it is common in that period of time for there to be no signing by the artist or indication of metal content.  These are in excellent vintage condition without problems.

This pair is highly collectible and stunning. They will be enjoyed for generations to come.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so I countercheck without relying on just one source, when possible. I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.

I request payment by PayPal in three days, but planned in advance of purchase alternate payment methods and time payments can be arranged.

International buyers pay actual shipping cost and are responsible for any customs fees their own countries may apply.

Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. Most pieces are museum worthy and gallery suitable, sold to you at great pricing. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you only the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you\'re starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear. My goal is that all my buyers are delighted, that my special pieces find the right homes.
