The steel we use with the blade is the high carbon steel folding by 15 times,creating with32768 layers;In a certain range,the purity of the steel will be higher with the increase of the folding times,and the content of the carbon will be more evenly,the functional of the blade will be better,and 15 times is the best condition of the folded steel ,no matter with the hardnessor the flexibility.the steel which folded by 15 times can compared with the quality of Japanese Tamahagane,so we call it Chinese Tamahagane.As we all know that the more content with the steel,the harder it will be and the blade will be shaper;we have do the cutting test of the blade,it can cut bamboo(young bamboo tree),brass mattings and slice paper(should keep the blade 45° ).
Clay tempered:
The clay temper procedure is really complicated,although what we show you is only four steps.The blade will be set apart as 2,one is the back of the blade and the other is the cut edge side.the back side will be stick with the clay and the other side will be covered by the powder and other mixture which is protected as a secret recipe.coz the different thickness of the back of the blade and the cut edge side,and the different of the clay mud and the mixture,when the blade cooling to be a same low temperature at the same time after the heating by high temperature,that is why the blade has a radian,and there is a clay temper wave line.
TSUBA(plate): Iron;the tsuba is used to protect your hand from sliding onto the blade during thrusts.
HABAKI(blade collar):is a one piece brass construction,there is engraving on the habaki of this sword. the main point of the habaki is to make the saya tight to the blade,so it is normal if there is scratch on.
SEPPAS(spacer):Two Seppas secure the Tsuba( if the tsuba is not so tight after a long time,you can disassemble the sword and put more seppas there.
MENUKI: brass ;there are 2 menuki ornamented on the handle,one on eachside.
SAGEO:used to tie the sword on your waist as a belt in the old time,but now we usually tie on the saya as in the picture.
SAYA(scabbard): The saya (sheath) of the sword is made of hardwood .tied with Sageoon the Kurigaga (knob) of the scabbard.
BO-Hi:Usually Bo-hi added to the blade is to lighten it and provide audible response when swung.it is called Blood-Groove sometimes.
