What can I say....built like a tank....love the spear point blade....nice shape, and perfect, I think, for self defensive purposes.....Since I am a serious Concert Pianist, I am trusting that wonderful lock to do its job, to protect my fingers....Would I recommend it...YES....Would I buy it again....YES....One small suggestion...the lanyard hole is a bit small, so will not take larger Paracord diameters....other than that, it's awesome....would I trust my life to it??? Absolutely....another home run by Lynn Thompson!!!

Still one of the best bang for your buck knives around. The XHP steel gets wonderfully sharp, holds an edge and can take an absolute pounding. The coating is really tough will not scratch easy at all. Huge amounts of grip from the G10 perfect in greasy conditions. Handle fits medium to large glove size hands well. The lockup is amazingly solid and the triad on the current series is absolutely fine, still harder than a backlocks from other manufacturers but no where near as bad as some of the older makes. If you need a 4" bladed hard working knife with razor sharpness good edge geometry and retention for a very reasonable price these are hard to beat. Cold Steel have some of the best factory edges around as well.

First of all. I didn't know how to answer the question above "Is it of good value". My finances always kept my pocket knife purchases to a $35-$40 range, so this purchase was a hard buy. But I have come to the conclusion this was a good purchase. The knife is big and substantial. What struck me first was the width of the blade at 1 1/4" (which was bigger than I had visualized) and the overall large size. I thought I don't want to carry this big thing around, but it has grown on me. It is not steel lined and if it were, it would be too heavy at this size. It is thin and that helps. The clip is strong and stiff, so I had to pry it open a hair to enable clipping to all types of pant materials. I wish the clip was a little deeper, so it would carry a little lower. The handle is nicely textured and I believe it will allow good grip in all conditions. With the finger grooves, it fits really nice in the hand in either direction with a very comfortable, solid grip. To open with the thumb screw one handed, I have to adjust the grip once, during the opening process due to the overall size; but it worked well. The blade was sharp. I just needed to hone it a little to smooth out the edge. When opened and locked, the blade is solid in both directions. The lock was stiff and solid. I expect it to work a little easier over time, I hope. Although this is my biggest pocket knife and I was skeptical of carrying comfortably, I quickly got used to it because it is light and thin (for it's size) and I can clip it. I have the old Buck 110s and this about that overall size without the weight and bulk. The Buck 110 is too heavy and big for my EDC. So, overall I am pleased I broke down and spent the bucks for this nice knife. I better not freaking loose it.Read full review

Great product from a great company. I've never had a bad knife from Cold Steel. This Recon 1 came very sharp, as usual. Feels solid and light in my hand. Being brand new, it is stiff to open and close but has loosened up to the perfect point after about 50-75 cycles. Grab one of these knives as an EDC or throw it in your go-bag. I'd like to get another two for my med bag and my go-bag. This one stays in my pocket!

Perfect utility blade shape. Excellent slicing and cutting performance from the deep hollow ground blade. Comfortable handle shape and size. Strong positive lock up. Smooth action. G10 is a little aggressive texture and pocket clip needs to be bent out slight or g10 sanded lightly under clip to make a smooth transition out of pants. Not a lightweight to carry but open in hand feels lighter than weight due to excellent balance.
