I have wanted one of these knives for years and finally purchased this one. I am very pleased, the workmanship is very nice, it has a good feel in my hand, does not feel as heavy as it is because of excellent balance. I would recommend that if you have been thinking of buying one, go ahead and get one, I no longer look at large knives now that I have one.

The knife is quite large, almost as long as a BK9 but much thicker. It came with a healthy coating of grease to keep the O1 from rusting, but it was in the sheath. Therefore, the sheath leaves a smeared pattern of grease on the blade for a while, unless you rinse out the sheath. That’s my only complaint, and it’s not that big of a deal. The sheath is serviceable. I will probably have a leather or kydex sheath made for it at some point. The knife is well made, fit and finish is excellent. The blade takes a nice edge and holds it. This knife will be good for anyone wanting a large fighting knife. It does ok in the woods, it will chop fairly well. It will make notches but it’s not the best. It does not do well battoning as the swedge tears batons up. For woods work, the BK9 is better, in my opinion, but I like the Trailmaster and am glad I purchased it.Read full review

The sheath could use a few more stitches at the snap strap. The knife blade was dipped in grease and then placed inside of the sheath. Why wouldn’t they place the knife in grease and then inside of a plastic sleeve and then inside the sheath? Duh! how does anyone get all of that grease out of the inside of the sheath? Very well made knife. I have a Chinese copy (M-Tech) that is pretty lame compared to the real thing. Keep a light coating of WD-40 or something similar on the blade as you would your gun metal and it should never rust. The sheath is fine. Don’t worry about the negative reviews of it. I had to dull the swedge since it was way too sharp and I would have cut myself. I don’t see a reason to have a sharp edge on the backside of the blade unless I’m in combat. If you are in bear country, leave it be. In my opinion, this is the ultimate knife if you need to use it as a hatchet or a small machete but is still very usable as a knife because of the blade shape. This is much more useful than a sharp pry bar.Read full review

This was my first Cold Steel purchase and it was a "thank you" to a friend who helped our family through a difficult situation. He has what he wants and I needed something very special to communicate a special message to him. This knife was the answer. I had to look at it before I gave it to him and was instantly impressed. Well balanced, oiled and sharp enough to shave with. I've since purchased two Cold Steel items and will someday buy one of these great knives.
