Coach Makers 8" Drawing Knife
|

Description:
This is an unusually shaped draw knife, with it's rounded handle shafts and thinner blade thickness. It was designed particularly for a Coach maker. After doing a little research, I found a matching picture in an 1884 New Haven catalog. The tool matches the picture in that catalog, same handles, concave cutting edge, and rounded handle shafts. Although this draw isn't marked, I feel confident that New Haven was the maker. The condition is good with a fine textured like, or matted surface that seems to match everywhere on the steel indicating some minor pitting over the hundred+ years since it was made. The cutting edge is in very nice condition with no sign of sharpening for many years, in other words the finish is the same every on the steel. The handle are solid no cracks, good end plates, the one on the right turn about 1/10th of a turn on the steel shaft holding it in place. A very hard to find 19th century tool!
