Early Barton Draw Knife

Description:
This is a good old draw knife that has a bit of the Barton stamp still visible on the back side, just above the clearance angle. The draw knife is in working condition with what appears to be the original handles intact. It appears the one of the handles was push forward on the iron handle shaft for reasons unknown, perhap an old repair. The handle are solid with a stron split in the side opposite the one that was moved forward. This is a laminated steel cutter with an iron handle section, (that's the way it was made). The iron has some pitting on it where the steel section looks much better with very minor pitting only. The knife blade has a convex shape as a cooper would use to form a concave surface inside the sections of a larger wood barrel. Overall a nice tool for it's age.
