Herbrand 4 inch Adjustable Bicycle Wrench
|

Description:
This is a very rare, clean, straight adjustable wrench marked, "HERBRAND" on the one side of the moving jaw. Herbrand was located in Freemont Ohio, they made all types of forged steel tools, but mostly automotive tools by the 1930's era. This wrench was made around 1900. It is questionable, but I have compared it to the Billings & Spencer 1896 patented bicycle wrench, and it is the same shape and size. Truth is several patented wrenches were made by other maker's foundries under permission from the patent holder in the early 1900's. This one is 4" long, it is straight, has a straight handle, the jaws align nicely, and the adjustment is in good working order. There is very minor wear and pitting noted. The jaw edges show very minor wear. A very collectible small adjustable wrench, the first I've seen by this early 1900's tool maker!
