~1864 CDV PHOTO CIVIL WAR ERA YOUNG WOMAN; (J.C.?) French Photography - Cincinnatus NY. CDV in good condition except for bit of a wet mark in top right corner, doesn't get near subject - see pix. Back just about completely clear. The woman's dress has a somewhat common aspect on the sleeves - the stripes often symbolize support of the military in the Civil War era, particularly in the 1860's, but some did continue to wear a bit after. Other characteristics highly support 1864 as when the photo was taken. Also, while not the majority, more women did start to wear short hair for practical and even preferred style reasons.
Re: photographer, French was a surprisingly not uncommon last name - not nationality detail - of photographers of the 1800's. This CDV's French is shown (on front) located in Cincinnatus, New York, and much research of information is confused with Cincinnati, Ohio - a more well-known city. However, there was a photographer in the Binghamton area of NY, close to Cincinnatus - a J.C. French, but unfortunately not much specific information is found for him right now. But is a U.S. photo.
