Beautiful late 19th / early 20th century French religious plaque in silver-plated copper, finely engraved in relief by the well-known French engraver B. Wicker (Bernard Wicker).
The scene depicts the famous Apparition of Our Lady of Lourdes (L’Apparition de Notre Dame de Lourdes): young Bernadette Soubirous kneeling in prayer before the Virgin Mary appearing in the grotto of Massabielle.
The plaque is framed by an elegant Gothic-style arched border with intricate floral and scrollwork decoration.
Clearly signed “B. Wicker Gr.” at the lower right of the scene and titled in French along the bottom edge.
