Vintage Hopi Native American Mudhead (Koyemsi) Kachina Doll as is
Up for sale/sale is a vintage, hand-carved wood Hopi Katsina doll representing the Koyemsi (Mudhead). This figure features a beautifully carved body on a natural wood pedestal slice, sporting a real black fabric kilt, leather belt, wrapped white moccasins with painted teal accents, and a faux-hair mustache/beard detail.
Please review the close-up photos and the detailed structural breakdown below to fully understand the condition of this piece:
Detailed Condition Breakdown:
• Right Hand: The hand-held rattle is missing. The leather wrist wrap and a yellow accent bead are still present, but the handle has snapped off inside the hand grip, leaving a small wood stub and center hole visible.
• Left Hand: The arm terminates in a clean, flat break where the original accessory (typically a drumstick, bow, or feather wand) was attached. The item is entirely missing.
• Head Nodules (The "Mud Heads"): The structural wood knobs are intact, but the tips of the top horn, the back-left knob, and the back-right knob show raw wood, fuzzy fiber remnants, and old adhesive residue. This indicates that the original feathers, yarn ties, or wool tufts traditionally attached to the nodules are now missing.
• Base & Feet: The doll is sturdily attached to its original wood-slice base. The moccasins retain their hand-painted turquoise/teal dots on the sides.
