Original 1859 edition of Wells' Every Man His Own Lawyer, and United States Form Book, a substantial legal reference and business handbook intended for everyday use throughout the United States. The book measures approximately 6 x 9 inches and is bound in its original full leather binding with raised spine bands. The binding shows expected age-related wear, rubbing, edge wear, and spine deterioration, but remains a solid, displayable example. Interior pages are generally clean with scattered foxing and age toning. Please examine photos for complete condition.

This copy is especially desirable for its identified ownership, being inscribed "Charles G. Folger Book" on the front endpaper. The volume comes from the Folger family, whose members were well known in New England. Family history identifies Charles Frederick Folger as a Civil War veteran, accomplished musician, and prominent Freemason, while Charles E. Folger became recognized as one of America's early philatelists. These documented family associations give this copy appealing provenance beyond that of an ordinary legal reference.

Published in New York by John G. Wells in 1859, the work provides hundreds of practical legal forms and explanations including deeds, mortgages, leases, contracts, powers of attorney, wills, partnership agreements, patents, citizenship forms, customs-house entries, bankruptcy proceedings, debtor and creditor law, landlord and tenant law, marriage and divorce law, and much more. It also includes illustrations and descriptions of the Great Seal of the United States and numerous state seals, along with interest tables, bookkeeping guidance, and legal information for every state in the Union.

A wonderful identified nineteenth-century legal reference with genealogy, Civil War, Masonic, and philatelic interest.

An excellent opportunity for collectors of Nantucket history, Massachusetts genealogy, identified schoolbooks, educational history, Folger family material, Civil War family memorabilia, Freemasonry, philately, or nineteenth-century Americana.

We have additional items from the Folger estate of nantucket malisted separately unless otherwise sold.

Authentic period piece related to family, historyor local heritage - well-suited for historical collections, genealogical /genealogy research, or museum acquisition.Vintage or Antique.
