Original 1861 Lowell Railroad Corporation freight receipt / waybill printed with an attractive steam locomotive vignette at upper left. Measures approximately 5 x 7.5 inches and is printed on blue paper with rules and regulations on the reverse.
Dated November 22, 1861, the receipt acknowledges freight received from SILAS PEIRCE & CO. in Boston for shipment to Lowell, Massachusetts. Listed goods include coffee syrup, sugar, molasses, barley, pickles, flour, and sacks of salt. The consignee appears to be D. Whittier of Lowell. Reverse contains the railroad\'s printed freight rules and regulations governing shipments and liability.
