Offered is an original 8.5 x 11 inch illustrated advertising broadside for the Metropolitan Hotel in Washington, D.C., printed by Hagadorn. The broadside features an attractive engraved view of the hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets and announces the management of Selden & Robbins, proprietors. The piece is printed on one side only and folds for mailing.
The announcement introduces W. H. Selden of Lynchburg, Virginia, and S. B. Robbins of Memphis, Tennessee, noting their previous management of several well-known southern hotels, including the Arlington and Norvell in Lynchburg, the Kimball House in Atlanta, the Planters Hotel in Augusta, and the Overton Hotel in Memphis. It announces that they have leased the Metropolitan (formerly Brown\'s Hotel), describing its convenient location midway between the Capitol and the Executive Mansion, its recent renovation, steam heat, Otis Brothers elevators, and street railway service at the door.
