Wanamaker\'s held a massive civic celebration inPhiladelphia in 1887to mark the 100th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. The event was heavily tied to the famous department store magnate John Wanamaker, who played a crucial civic role in the celebration. Held from September 16–18, 1887, Wanamaker’s Grand Depot store on Chestnut Street featured a massive, decorated arch. The city hosted enormous industrial, military, and historical parades in front of Wanamaker’s.
