1887 Handwritten Business Letter from Palatka, Florida Regarding a Protested Check
Double sided Approximately 8\" by 4.75\"
This is an original handwritten business letter dated November 16, 1886, from Sanford, Florida. Addressed to Messrs. Ferris & Smith of Jacksonville, the writer, E.P. Ahern, expresses interest in securing an agency arrangement related to fruit (likely citrus) distribution. Therne mentions already being engaged in the fruit business locally and proposes handling their goods if satisfactory terms could be reached. The letter reflects the late 19th-century expansion of Florida’s citrus trade, with Sanford as a central hub for orange growing and shipping. A fine piece of Florida business and agricultural history, showing the networking and commercial negotiations of the era.
