Antique R.K. Bonine stereoscopic view from the Great Johnstown Flood of May 31, 1889, card No. 25.
This particularly interesting view depicts the famous dog “Romey,” owned by the Kress family of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The original printed caption on the reverse recounts that during the flood Romey saved the lives of three people — Mrs. Kress, a child, and a domestic — after they had fallen from a housetop, pulling them to floating logs and boards.
Published by R.K. Bonine, Photographic Art Publisher, Tyrone, Pennsylvania.
A fascinating piece of Johnstown Flood history with additional appeal to collectors of antique photography, stereoviews, Pennsylvania history, and historic dog/animal subjects.
The card is in original antique condition with age-related toning, staining, edge and corner wear, and a slight curve, as pictured. There is also some old writing on the reverse. It is currently housed on its own protective plastic sheet/backing. Please review all photographs carefully for condition.
