Offered here is an original March 3, 1896 business letter measuring approximately 9.5 x 6 inches, written on illustrated letterhead of The James Baldwin Co., Manchester, New Hampshire, manufacturers of Bobbins, Spools & Shuttles for Cotton, Woolen, Silk, and Linen Mills, and also saw and tool handles.
The letter is addressed to WALTER COFRAN, Deerfield, New Hampshire, and discusses lumber — specifically 2nd grade poplar boards for boxing — with a quoted allowance of $1.00 from Manchester. The letter is signed on behalf of the company (initialed “J.B.”).
Included is the original mailing envelope bearing a red 2¢ Washington stamp, Manchester, NH March 3, 1896 postmark, and a clear receiving backstamp from Candia, NH (March 4, 1896). Addressed to:
