DESCRIPTION:
Original August 9, 1898 Benedict Company business letterhead from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, featuring an exceptionally ornate late-19th-century illustrated heading for the company’s “First Clothing Manufactory.”

The upper portion is especially displayable, with a large engraved-style view of the company’s multi-story factory/building at left and an elaborate decorative BENEDICT COMPANY / FIRST CLOTHING MANUFACTORY logo surrounded by flowers, foliage and drapery.

The letterhead identifies the business at the corner of Grand Avenue & Fourth Street, Milwaukee, Wis. and names:

  • Henry Benedict, President
  • Chas. H. Black, Secretary & Treasurer

Dated August 9, 1898, the typed business letter is addressed to Mr. M. Glauver, Cripple Creek, Colorado. It concerns a clothing order placed through the company\'s Mr. Levy. Benedict Company advises that an invoice for part of the goods is enclosed, while the balance is still being manufactured and will follow shortly.

Of additional commercial interest, the company discusses the recipient\'s practice of taking available discounts and extends him the same privilege as its cash customers, allowing a 10% discount upon receipt of the goods. The letter closes by soliciting additional mail orders during the season.

Signed/stamped at bottom on behalf of Benedict Company.

A particularly attractive example of 1890s Milwaukee clothing-manufacturing ephemera, combining correspondence, wholesale trade history, an architectural factory vignette and elaborate Victorian commercial typography.

SIZE: Approximately 8.5 x 11 inches.

Authentic period piece related to family, historyor local heritage - well-suited for historical collections, genealogical /genealogy research, or museum acquisition.Vintage or Antique.
