1901 Pan American Expo Buffalo NY 17x25 Press Sheet Bicycle Races / War Heroes For Sale

Rare 1901 Pan American Exposition, Buffalo, NY, Press Sheet, measuring 25 x 17 inches. Issued directly by the exposition’s Publicity Bureau, they were functional media kits sent exclusively to newspaper editors across North America before and during the world's fair.
The Exposition’s promotional department printed these massive sheets packed with pre-written, ready-to-print news stories, complete with the header "Editors Copy". This one is identified as "B 172" and dates to August 1901. It features articles on the following:

• The Cycling Carnival: Cycling was one of the biggest spectator sports in America at the turn of the 20th century. Arthur Augustus Zimmerman, arguably America's first international cycling superstar and world champion. Eddie "Cannon" Bald, a legendary Buffalo native and one of the top American racing cyclists of the 1890s and early 1900s. The exposition featured a massive, state-of-the-art velodrome stadium specifically built for these high-profile athletic competitions.
• "Personal to the Editor": This section is a direct, fascinating behind-the-scenes plea from the Exposition’s PR team. In early May 1901, the fair suffered from terrible weather (including late snow and heavy rains) and labor strikes, which delayed the completion of several major exhibits and buildings. Rumors spread nationally that the fair was a half-finished disaster. This letter was a targeted damage-control campaign begging editors to tell the public that the "City of Light" was fully functional and ready for visitors.
• "Heroes at the Fair: Porto Rican Army of Invasion". This is a fascinating artifact of the Spanish-American War (1898). Just three years after the U.S. invaded and claimed Puerto Rico, the Exposition staged a massive veteran reunion on August 27th. Miles was the Commanding General of the U.S. Army who personally led the invasion of Puerto Rico. Admiral Winfield Scott Schley was a legendary naval hero of the Battle of Santiago de Cuba. Having their names attached to "Porto Rican Army Day" guaranteed front-page national news.
