RPPC Decorah Iowa Flood Damage View of Stoskoff / Stoskopf House with Railroad Tracks & Moving Wagon
Original early real photo postcard showing a flood-damage scene, believed to be in Decorah, Iowa, with a residential house beside railroad tracks and a horse-drawn wagon loaded with household goods. The front shows men gathered near the tracks, debris and washout damage in the foreground, and household items being removed from the property.
The reverse bears a period handwritten note, appearing to read:
“Here is view of Stoskoff house. This is one block south of Mother’s place. Note the down-stairs furniture and goods floated away. They are moving the up-stairs stuff.”
The family name appears to read Stoskoff or possibly Stoskopf. The note provides excellent period context, describing flood damage to the home and the removal of remaining upstairs belongings after the downstairs furniture and goods had been carried away.
A strong early flood/disaster RPPC with excellent local-history interest, showing a named house, railroad tracks, flood debris, a horse-drawn wagon, and people actively dealing with the aftermath.
The postcard has an AZO stamp box, dating the real photo postcard stock generally to the early 20th century, approximately real photo postcard. Unused and not postally mailed. General age toning, surface wear, light spotting, and soiling. Noticeable discoloration and foxing on both sides, including staining near the upper left of the image and toning and staining to the reverse. Minor edge and corner wear, with light handling wear.
