The Morton-Simmons Hardware Company was a prominent wholesale hardware business tied closely to the Simmons Hardware Company, best known for its Keen Kutter brand. The name “Morton-Simmons” appears on the historic warehouse in Wichita, Kansas—now known as the Keen Kutter Building—which was constructed in 1905–1906 and served as a major distribution hub2.
This warehouse was a marvel of its time: it featured electric elevators, messenger call boxes, and a 20,000-gallon water tower for fire suppression. It held over 79,000 pieces of merchandise and was supplied by a spur of the Frisco Railway2. The building’s design was inspired by the Cupples Building in St. Louis and cost around $250,000 to build—a significant investment at the time.ORIGINAL, LETTERHEADS, BILLHEAD, BILLHEADS, HARDWARE.
