Rare Original 1922 Egyptian Revival Advertising Wall Calendar - Dorsch & Hitzeman Dental Laboratory, Chicago, Illinois
This is a beautiful, highly collectible piece of early 1920s paper ephemera. This original antique promotional wall calendar dates to March 1922 and showcases a stunning example of the Egyptian Revival design aesthetic that swept the decorative arts during the Art Deco era.
This calendar was custom-commissioned as long-term advertising for Dorsch & Hitzeman Dental Laboratory, historically located in the famous Stewart Building (108 North State Street) in downtown Chicago, Illinois.
Aesthetic: Features vibrant, rich lithographic colors with iconic Egyptian motifs including a winged sun disk, lotus pillars, a sphinx, and sun disk, lotus pillars, a sphinx, and pyramids.
* Centerpiece: A beautifully stylized faux-parchment scroll featuring the philosophical quote: "The more you know, the more you know you ought to know."
* Calendar: Shows the month of March 1922.
Condition Report:
This antique calendar is in excellent structural condition with superb,
vibrant color retention.
Please note that the vertical lines visible on the left side of the scroll are part of the original lithographed artwork design (intended to look like antiqued parchment) and are not actual tears, creases, or damage to the paper. The edges are exceptionally clean for a 100+ year-old piece of ephemera, with only negligible corner wear at the bottom and top right. Unframed and structurally sound.
The front displays beautifully with excellent colors. The reverse side shows light, age-appropriate minimal staining near the corners, which is purely cosmetic and does not affect the front artwork or structural integrity."
