1928 German RPPC Real Photo Postcard Couple Silver Wedding Iron Cross EK1
DescriptionA charming original German real-photo postcard, a studio portrait of a married couple in formal dress. The gentleman wears formal attire with a WWI Iron Cross on his jacket (worn as a veteran's decoration) and a boutonniere; the lady wears a dark gown, spectacles, a wreath/tiara in her hair, and a tasselled corsage — the traditional dress of a silver-anniversary celebration. An authentic period photographic postcard, not a reproduction.
Handwritten message on the divided back (in old German Kurrent/Sütterlin script) reads:
"Zur Erinnerung an unsern Silber-Hochzeitstag — 18. Mai 1928."
Translation: "In memory of our Silver Wedding Anniversary — 18 May 1928."
This dates the keepsake to Weimar-era Germany, 18 May 1928, marking the couple's 25th wedding anniversary (married in 1903). A wonderful, human piece of German family and social history, with the added militaria interest of the husband's Great War Iron Cross.
