SNAPBACK Batman Hat
Vintage1930s Pittsburgh seltzer / soda siphon bottle from the Nectar Bottling Co., an impressive large example standing approximately 12 inches tall and weighing about 3½ pounds.
The bottle has original etched advertising on the glass reading NECTAR BOTT. CO. and PITTSBURGH, making this a particularly nice piece of early Pittsburgh soda and bottling history. The original metal siphon top is marked “POP SODA.” The bottle does say PITTSBURGH with the "H" in spite of the title spelling. :)
Made of exceptionallythick, heavy clear glass with attractive molded vertical panels/facets and a substantial multi-sided base. It retains the original metal siphon mechanism and internal glass tube. The underside is marked MADE IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA, as shown in the photographs.
Interestingly, the bottle still contained pressure when found, which was released when the siphon lever was pressed. We have not attempted to refill or otherwise test the siphon and are selling it as a vintage collectible/display piece.
The bottle displays very well and shows normal wear consistent with its age and commercial use.There are typical case marks/wear on some of the high points of the glass, particularly around the upper shoulder and bottom/base. These are worn or rubbed areas from years of contact and handling and are not chips. The metal siphon assembly also shows normal age and surface wear.
Approximately 12" tall and 3½ pounds.
The combination of the substantial heavy glass construction, attractive faceted form, original POP SODA siphon hardware and Nectar Bottling Co. Pittsburgh advertising makes this a wonderful piece of early Pittsburgh bottling history.
