ORIGINAL 1942 WWII U.S. WAR SAVINGS SCHOOL PLEDGE
Outstanding original World War II Home Front pledge encouraging American schoolchildren to continue purchasing United States War Savings Stamps and Bonds throughout their summer vacation.
Printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office in 1942.
The patriotic red, white and blue design features an American eagle, stars, a large Victory \"V\" and the heading:
PLEDGE
TO EVERY SOLDIER, SAILORAND MARINE WHO IS FIGHTINGFOR MY COUNTRY
The pledge asks the student to promise to continue buying United States War Savings Stamps and Bonds \"to the limit of my ability\" throughout summer vacation and until victory was won.
This was part of an extraordinary nationwide WWII Treasury campaign aimed specifically at American schoolchildren.
Historical Treasury records document that 10 MILLION of these school pledge cards were ordered for distribution beginning in May 1942. Their purpose was to keep the War Savings program active among children during the summer months when school was not in session.
Unlike many surviving examples that were signed and dated by participating children, this example was NEVER FILLED OUT. The signature, witness and date lines remain blank.
