Offered here is a rare and striking original 1943 WWII-era print published by the Electric Boat Company of New York — the legendary submarine builder known as EBCO (later General Dynamics Electric Boat, still building U.S. submarines today).
The print is titled "EBCO Submarines — Sinking a Jap Freighter" and depicts a dramatic Pacific Theater surface action. A U.S. submarine crew mans a deck gun firing on a burning Japanese freighter, with a snow-capped volcano visible in the background and kill flags displayed on the conning tower. The scene captures the aggressive American submarine campaign that devastated Japanese shipping during the war.
The artwork was painted by Gerald Leake, a prominent maritime and military illustrator whose work appeared regularly during WWII. His signature appears in the lower right of the image. The lower margin reads: "EBCO SUBMARINES — SINKING A JAP FREIGHTER" with "COPYRIGHT 1943, ELECTRIC BOAT COMPANY, NEW YORK" at the lower right.
These Electric Boat Company prints were produced in a series during the war to promote the company's submarine manufacturing contributions. They are scarce in original form and highly collectible among WWII Navy and submarine memorabilia collectors.
Condition: One horizontal fold line across the lower image area; age toning to white margins. Colors remain bold and vibrant. No tears, no losses, no writing.
Size: 14.5" x 19.5" (image area)
