J. Lyons & Co. opened the Trocadero in 1896 on Coventry Street by Piccadilly Circus, an Opera-Baroque landmark with a grill room, ballroom, Arthurian-legend murals and even its own masonic lodge. The \'Troc\' catered to London\'s taste for all things French and survived two world wars. By 1965 the appetite had waned; Lyons sold the building to Mecca, which reopened it as the Tiffany\'s dance hall, and the restaurant era ended.
