The real BSA B44 has genuine competition blood in its veins.
The B44 was built around a 441cc air-cooled OHV four-stroke single-cylinder engine and developed from BSA's successful competition singles. The family traced its development to the machines campaigned by BSA works rider Jeff Smith, whose motocross success helped establish the Victor name.
By 1968, the B44 family included machines intended for both road and off-road use. The B44 Victor Special combined the big British single with a four-speed gearbox, chain final drive, telescopic front suspension, twin rear shocks and drum brakes.
That big single-cylinder engine is a major part of the B44's character. Rather than the high-revving multi-cylinder approach increasingly common elsewhere, the BSA delivered the distinctive torque, sound and mechanical simplicity associated with classic British competition motorcycles.
