Buy the Matching Sticker HereCelebrate one of the leanest and meanest Ironhead Sportsters with this 8 x 10 inch glossy photo print featuring the 1983 Harley-Davidson XLX-61, reimagined in the outrageous Monsters on Machines style.
The artwork captures a black 1983 Harley-Davidson XLX blasting down a palm-lined Los Angeles roadway, chrome shining beneath a brilliant California sky with the downtown skyline rising in the background. At the controls is a completely deranged yellow mutant rider with enormous bloodshot eyes, jagged teeth and a wild yellow, black and white mohawk, hanging onto the handlebars while the rear tire kicks up a cloud behind him.
The real motorcycle behind the monster has a great story.
Harley-Davidson introduced the XLX-61 for the 1983 model year as a deliberately stripped-down member of the Sportster family. Period reporting described it as a basic, no-frills motorcycle built by eliminating equipment and weight rather than piling on additional trim. The model used Harley's 61-cubic-inch, approximately 1000cc Ironhead Sportster V-twin, mounted in the revised Sportster chassis introduced for 1982.
Its simplicity was the whole point. The XLX dispensed with much of the ornamentation associated with more expensive Harley models and emphasized the essentials: air-cooled Ironhead V-twin power, four-speed transmission, chain drive, traditional Sportster chassis and minimalist styling.
Just as memorable was its price. The first-year XLX-61 carried a widely advertised $3,995 base price, putting a new Harley-Davidson within reach of riders who might otherwise have been shopping imported motorcycles. The combination proved successful—the initial model run sold quickly.
Today, the 1983 XLX-61 represents a fascinating point in Harley-Davidson history: an early post-AMF motorcycle, a late-generation Ironhead Sportster, and a factory-built back-to-basics Harley that arrived before the Evolution-engine Sportsters transformed the line later in the decade.
This Monsters on Machines interpretation plays up that raw attitude with a low, aggressive black motorcycle, gleaming chrome, classic round headlight and unmistakable Harley-Davidson tank graphics.
Huge fiery HARLEY-DAVIDSON lettering dominates the top of the artwork, while bold 83 XLX graphics and the MONSTERS ON MACHINES name complete the vintage hot-rod composition.
Printed on high-quality photo media with a glossy finish, this 8 x 10 inch portrait-format print makes an excellent display piece for a garage, workshop, motorcycle room, office, game room or man cave.
Perfect for collectors and enthusiasts of Harley-Davidson, XLX-61 motorcycles, Ironhead Sportsters, vintage Harleys, 1980s motorcycles, classic American motorcycles, hot-rod art and monster culture.
