Up for sale is 2 genuine antique Gillette three-piece safety razors, 1 stamped on the handle “JAN. 3. 1922, PATENTS PENDING.” The comb/blade guard carries the classic Gillette diamond logo and “Made in U.S.A.” mark.
Included is the original Gillette gold-tone tin case, with “Made in U.S.A. — Gillette — Known the World Over” embossed on the underside of the lid. Inside that Gillette tin sits a bonus find: a sealed, unopened “The New Rey De Luxe” razor blade package from Rey Safety Razor Corp. of New York — never opened, making it a nice NOS (new-old-stock) piece for blade collectors.
Condition: The razor shows a hairline crack near the base of the handle neck (see photos) and moderate gold plating wear/tarnish consistent with over 100 years of age; the blade guard tips show some brassing. The Gillette tin shows surface wear and handling marks but no major dents. The Rey De Luxe blade package remains factory sealed and unopened.
A great lot for the vintage razor collector — combining an authentic 1922 Gillette razor, its original case, and a sealed period blade pack from a lesser-seen brand.
