Vintage unique project display for LOGGING, TIMBER, LUMBER MILLS,MACHINERY & PRODUCTION; there are 21 photos, and one photo shows the AMBROSE MILL & LUMBER CO., which was located in SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA;that’s the onlyhint as to the locations of the other photos, but it was a student’s school project so I would think that all the photos are from the Ambrose Mill or another mill in or near Santa Barbara; no date either, butdefinitelycirca the 1950’s, possibly 1940’s. It’s made of 8 sheets of sturdy cardboard, taped together at sides to create hinges, resulting in 16 panels (8 on each side), and it measures 16x20 inches; the photos measure 7.5x9.5 inches (except the large cover photo which is 13.25x10.25”).
The photos show loggers at work with saws, mill yard and cars, bucking pond logs by electric drag saw, edger machine at work, mill interior where logs are cut into boards (this one has heavy scarring to left side), a man feeding the planer and boards being sorted (interiors), piled planks in the mill yard, man on truck at back of mill collecting slabs and edging that have been cut up and conveyed to the hopper, loading a railroad car, the Ambrose Mill photo with beautiful Fuller Paint truck, and 7 showing the process of making frame and sash stock (on the shaper and sticker machines, mortice machine, gluing sashes and glazing window glass).
Condition is VG or so: obviously some photos are missing and a few have damage, and some areas of the cardboard have stains, smudges and marks; the bottom half of the last two panels have moisture dame with spotting (and the several damaged photos).
