3 Chinese Women Methodist Episcopal Church China Magic Lantern Slide c1900s For Sale

This is a magic lantern slide that is 4¼ x 3¼ inches (107x83mm).

It shows three young Chinese women standing side by side and facing the camera in front of a dark wooden panelled wall, on a pale earth or stone ground. Each wears a hand-tinted pale blue and white tunic with dark edging, a high collar and a fastening running diagonally across the chest, worn over matching wide trousers. They wear bangles on their wrists, coloured yellow and green in the tinting, and small pointed shoes coloured yellow, red and green. The woman on the left has her hair drawn back, while the two on the right have dark hair framing their faces. The printed label at the left edge reads \'Lantern Slide Bureau, Methodist Episcopal Church in China, Slide No.. Lect. No.. Neg. No.. \'. The blanks are filled in by hand: the slide number reads \'1567\', the lecture number \'JRH\', and the negative number appears to read \'AD2\'. A small black circular sticker sits at the lower end of the label.
