Fascinating original group of five real photo postcards documenting the Burkburnett, Texas oil boom era, circa 1918–1919.These remarkable photographs show the rapidly developing North Texas oil fields and related infrastructure during one of the great American oil booms of the early 20th century. Images include a forest of oil derricks, a burning oil well, a dramatic 1919 town fire, oil tank cars/loading facilities, an oil-field worker, and a bridge across the Red River between Texas and Oklahoma.Several photographs bear handwritten photographic captions and the credit “Kodak Shop.” Dated views include November 1918/1919, placing them directly within the Burkburnett oil-boom period.Several cards also have handwritten notes on the reverse identifying the scenes and providing wonderful firsthand context. One identifies the river as separating Texas from Oklahoma, while another describes a nearby town as having been approximately five miles from Burkburnett and having “burnt clean out.”An exceptional little group of early Texas petroleum history with strong subject matter including oil derricks, oil wells, fire/disaster, railroad tank cars, industrial infrastructure and the Texas/Oklahoma border region.All five cards are being offered together as found.
