Adlake # 1112 SquareTop Non Sweating 4-Way Railroad Switch Lantern -
Beautiful Antique, Refurbished and Electrified.
Vintage from the 1930s or 1940s. Beautifully Restored Adlake No. 1112 railroad switch or marker lantern. Superb condition for its age. This is a beautiful piece from the estate of a railroad memorabilia collector. Fantastic piece for a special gift, a mancave, restaurant or conversation in the office space.
Adams & Westlake was one of the best known and oldest manufacturers of railroad lanterns. By Theearly 1900s, Adlake was noted as one of the largest suppliers of transportation equipment.
This Adlake No. 1112 Switch Lantern has had the exterior refurbished and repainted to approximate its original gloss black finish. The Exterior parts are in excellent condition, Hinges are tight with no shifting of looseness. There are two red glass lenses and two bluish lenses, each about 4 1/2 inches in diameter. The bluish lens was intended for a yellow kerosene flame which would make it appear green.
The interior lacks all the original kerosene burning components: oil fount, burner assembly, vent cone, etc. Interior components are readily available from various Lamp restoration web sites, should conversion back to a kerosene burner be desired.
A custom Oak base was added during the recent conversion to electricity. The wooden base is a 2-piece design, constructed to mimic a railroad switch pedestal and fits into the socket base of the Switch Lamp. The Oak base and electrical parts are easily removable and are not permanently attached to the Adlake Lamp. The wood base pedestal extends up inside the Lantern cavity to place the light at correct height to replicate the original kerosene burner. The electrical wiring is in very good condition. The light switch is on the cord. The light does work.
NOTE: To get the correct color with an electric light, a clear incandescent bulb works best. A little 5W night light bulb will very closely mimic the color and intensity of a kerosene flame.
·Weighs About 10# with wood base.
·Approximately 16 1/2\" tall plus handle
·Lantern is about 8\" across at widest point.
·Wood base is about 9” x 9” x 2” plus lamp mounting pedestal.
