The Fokker F27 Friendship is a turboprop airliner developed and manufactured by the Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker. It was the most numerous post-war aircraft manufactured in the Netherlands. The F27 was one of the most successful European airliners of its era. The United States Army and Air Force version was the C-31 Troopship.The Golden Knights are the official parachute demonstration and competition team of the United States Army. They perform precision skydiving demonstrations at airshows and public events, participate in international parachuting competitions and are a recruiting outreach to represent the United States Army. They were originally formed in 1959 and currently based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The team structure consists of a Demonstration Team that perform at public events, a Competition Team that competes worldwide, an Aviation Detachment consisting of pilots and aircraft crew, and Support personnel consisting of riggers, instructors and staff.
This aircraft with registration 85-1607 had its first flight on 23 April 1983 and was manufactured as a Fokker F27-400M. It was leased to the United States Government in 1984 and delivered to the United States Army on 28 November 1985. The Army designation was a C-31A. It was operated by the Golden Knights Parachuting Team. In 2018 the C-31 was retired and replaced by the De Havilland Canada Dash 8-300, designated the C-147A for Army service.
