Antique Circa 1840s Olive Green Pontiled Demijohn – Attributed Black Forest, GermanyExcellent early hand-blown olive-green glass demijohn dating to approximately the 1840s, attributed to the Black Forest region of Germany.This approximately one-quart-size utility/storage bottle was blown into a dip mold and retains numerous characteristics associated with early 19th-century glassmaking.The bottle has a tall cylindrical body transitioning into rounded/sloping shoulders and an elongated neck. The glass displays an attractive olive / forest-green coloration, with natural variations in color and thickness visible when viewed in different lighting.The mouth terminates in a wide flared lip/finish. The base displays a prominent open/blowpipe pontil scar, providing clear evidence of its early hand-manufacturing process. The pontil is rough and irregular with residual glass surrounding the scar, as expected from this type of manufacture.The body is unembossed and shows the subtle irregularities and character expected of early blown glass, including variations in glass thickness, small trapped bubbles/seed bubbles, waviness, tooling/manufacturing marks and asymmetry.Approximate measurements:

Attic-found antique condition. The bottle has patchy interior haze/cloudiness, most noticeable through portions of the body and shoulder. Exterior surface scratching, scuffs and wear are visible, particularly around the lower body/base, consistent with considerable age and use. Manufacturing irregularities, bubbles and variations in the glass are present.No chips or cracks observed.Please examine all photographs closely.
